On the afternoon of March 1, Professor Guo Huimin, former Vice President of University of International Relations, level-2 Professor and Visiting Professor of FPNU, returned to FPNU on invitation. He gave an academic lecture entitled The Embarrassment and the Possibility of Dialogues between Chinese and Foreign Discourses for teachers and students of the School of Foreign Languages. Chair Professor of Minjiang Scholar Incentive Plan” and Visiting Professor of FPNU, Yu Xiaoqiu, and the Party and administrative leaders of the School of Foreign Languages, as well as teachers and students representatives  participated in the event.

Starting from Deng Xiaoping's view of the world, Professor Guo Huimin expounded on China’s relations with the rest of the world based on his rich practice in the international public relations. He pointed out that with China's peaceful rise on the world stage, China's relationship with the world has undergone major changes. China is approaching the center of the world stage as never before, and the importance and urgency of “constructing a system of Chinese discourse and making the voice of China heard, are increasingly evident. Professor Guo Huimin gave an in-depth interpretation of General Secretary Xi Jinping's scientific theories on the historical position of contemporary China. He stressed that China today is marked by changes unseen in a century, approaching the goal of realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation as never before, and has the ability and confidence to realize national rejuvenation as never before. In the lecture, Professor Guo Huimin vividly explained the theory of multicultural compatibility, and comprehensively analyzed the embarrassment faced by international exchanges in the context of China and the West and how to break through the embarrassing situation. He hopes that foreign language workers can keep pace with the times, broaden their own horizons, use their solid professional skills to break through the embarrassment of dialogues between Chinese and foreign discourses, help "tell China’s stories well", and make greater efforts to construct the system of China's own discourse and narration.

The lectures given by Professor Guo Huimin are rich in content, profound and inspiring. The teachers and students now have a deeper understanding of the importance and urgency of constructing the system of China’s own discourse in the dialogues between China and the West, and are clearly aware of the mission of foreign language speakers. The  confidence and determination to “construct the discourse system and make the voice of China heard” are therefore strenghened. (School of Foreign Langugages)
