On the occasion of bidding farewell to the old and ushering in the new year 2023, we, on behalf of the Party Committee and administration, would like to extend our sincere greetings and best wishes to all FPNU staff (both working and retired), students, alumni at home and abroad, and people from all walks of life who support the development of FPNU.
As an extremely important year for the development of CPC Party and our country, the year 2022 is also a year in which our university has been striving hard and forging ahead.
Over the past year, our school has adhered to Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and done a good job in preparing for convening the Party’s 20th National Congress and in studying, publicizing and implementing the spirit of the Congress. We also adhered to CPC Party’s leadership over FPNU, coordinating the work of epidemic prevention and control, and leading the teachers and students to strive for first-class disciplines and first-class university, so as to push the development of FPNU to a new level.
Over the past year, we have taken the bearings firmly under the leadership of the CPC. With Party political building as our guide, we have implemented the general requirements for Party building in the new era, constantly improved our political judgment, understanding, and execution, so as to integrate the Party building with the development of FPNU.
Over the past year, we have been striving for changes to catch up. Serving the “four major economies” of Fujian Province, FPNU has been focusing on the development of regional industrial and vocational education and optimizing the layout of disciplines and specialties. So far, FPNU has established the School of Oceanography, and newly added five undergraduate majors and two provincial first-class majors. In addition, four newly declared undergraduate majors have already passed the expert review of the National Education Advisory Commission. FPNU has become a master degree-granting unit of Fujian Province; master’s joint training programs have been set up in three disciplines. At present, FPNU cultivates postgraduates in collaboration with two universities, and so far it has completed the recruitment of the first graduate students. FPNU has been a first-class application-oriented construction site in Fujian Province, and the number of enrolled students has exceeded 10,000.
Over the past year, we have improved the quality of development. Firstly, FPNU deepens the integration of industry and education, and has been selected as one of the first construction projects of Fujian Modern Industry College. Secondly, our personnel training continued to be strengthened, and the passing rate of the postgraduate entrance examination and year-end employment rate for 2022 graduates remained at a relatively high level. In addition, we have improved the faculty development by promoting the reform of the professional title evaluation system, implementing the evaluation and management of “double-qualified” and “dual-talented” teachers, and strengthening the training of teachers’ practical skills. Against this background, our teachers won six awards in teaching competitions at or above the provincial level, obtained 46 new projects at or above the provincial and ministerial levels, and earned one first, one second, and one third prizes of Fujian Provincial Social Science Excellent Achievement Awards. Moreover, our capacity of applied research and social services continued to improve, and annual horizontal funds received increased significantly. We also promoted the development of the provincial-level innovation platform Fujian Province-Indonesia Marine Food Joint Research and Development Center, and established the research institutions such as the China-Indonesia Industrial Cooperation Research Center.
Over the past year, we have shouldered our responsibility in serving vocational education. We have been improving our ability to serve the development of vocational education. We attached great importance to the construction of the provincial teacher development league for vocational education. At present, the provincial vocational education teacher training center and the provincial moral education research center for secondary vocational schools have been set up and based at FPNU. We have been striving to build a vocational education development community in collaboration with the five affiliated secondary vocational schools and nine base schools. We have organized forums for vocational teachers and principals in Fujian Province and provided training for vocational teachers. We also established Vocational Education Development Institute, and 12 FPNU teachers were elected as members of the provincial vocational teaching and research panel.
Over the past year, we have improved our reputation by opening up to the outside world. FPNU invited ambassadors to the campus, including the Indonesian Ambassador to China and the Japanese Consul-General in Guangzhou. We also have established a number of cooperative relations with overseas universities and institutions in Indonesia, Japan, Thailand, and Brazil. FPNU has also set up cooperative-education programs with Bangkok Thonburi University in Thailand. In addition, we have been strengthening the education of overseas students and serving the China-ASEAN comprehensive strategic partnership, so international students from Indonesia and Laos also joined FPNU this year. Moreover, FPNU valued much people-to-people cultural exchanges and published a series of research results on Huangbo (Obaku) culture.
Over the past year, we have provided much support to guarantee education quality. First and foremost, infrastructure projects have been actively promoted. The new campus is under construction, and Linlianxing Science and Technology Building on Wumashan Campus was roofed over as scheduled. The student dorm buildings in Area A was completed and put into use, while the ones in Area B broke ground. We have made steady progress in equipment purchase and upgrading. As well, FPNU has significantly increased the welfare benefits of the faculty and staff; public rental houses were open to the teachers without houses in Fuqing City. Regarding students, FPNU carried out student financial aid policies, renovated student dormitories, campus roads, and building facades, upgraded network facilities, and improved the commuting between the two campuses in use. Moreover, FPNU set up the education foundation and attracted funds.
Over the past year, we have forged ahead with what had been achieved. On the occasion of the 45th anniversary, FPNU organized festivities that facilitate its development, such as the exhibition of talent cultivation achievements, art exhibition, academic forum, alumni symposium, academia-industry cooperation, literary gala and celebration conference. During the celebration, we looked back into the school history, displayed the achievements, summarized the experience, and inspired the spirit of endeavor.
Mission encourages morale and hard work leads to the realization of our dream. FPNU shall keep in mind the mission of educating people and cultivating talents for the Party and the country by following the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and implementing the guiding principles of the 20th CPC National Congress. To accomplish the mission, FPNU shall be confident and self-reliant, strive hard to build it into a high-level polytechnic normal university with distinct characteristics, so as to make greater contributions to the development of Fujian Province, construction of a socialist country, and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation!
