From September 12 to 16, an interdisciplinary scholar delegation from the Graduate School of Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES), Indonesia, paid a topic-oriented field research and academic exchange visit to FPNU. Jiang Xingshan, Member of the University Party Committee and Vice President, received the delegation at the Indonesia Research Institute on the Wumashan Campus. Staff from relevant departments attended the event.

Jiang Xingshan extended a warm welcome to the delegation. He introduced that rooted in the overseas Chinese hometown geographic advantage and relying on six core research platforms of the Indonesia Research Institute, FPNU has built an integrated five-dimensional research system covering industrial economy, legal governance, overseas interests, cultural exchanges and cross-border vocational education. A number of research outcomes have supported the development of the China-Indonesia "Two Countries, Twin Parks" initiative. He expressed the hope that both sides could leverage their respective disciplinary strengths to deliver tangible cooperation in joint research project applications, collaborative postgraduate training, and industry-university-research integration, enabling academic research to address practical educational and social needs of both countries.

Professor Wasino, Vice Dean of the Graduate School of Universitas Negeri Semarang, reviewed the history of maritime trade and people-to-people exchanges between China and Indonesia in his remarks. He introduced that delegation members boast diverse disciplinary backgrounds spanning education, biology, engineering, humanities and history. Aligned with the three core functions of Indonesian higher education institutions — teaching, research and community service — he proposed that both sides continue to advance cooperation including joint research projects, co-supervision of postgraduate students, guest lectures and faculty-student exchanges, and actively explore cooperation on degree programs.
Centered on research topics, this visit saw delegation members bringing their own research themes, pushing bilateral cooperation toward in-depth joint research. During the visit, cooperation was carried out along three major lines: academic seminars, empirical research on basic education, and fieldwork for cultural heritage documentation. In the on-campus thematic seminar, participating scholars were divided into four groups by themes: culture, education, social economy, and science and technology. They held in-depth discussions on overseas Chinese communities, vocational education, cross-border economic governance and other topics, and refined joint research plans. Researchers focusing on Indonesian basic education conducted empirical investigations at Fuqing Xingzhi Primary School to collect practical references for basic education reform in Indonesia. Researchers from both universities also jointly conducted field data collection on overseas Chinese history and maritime civilization. They visited the Liem Sioe Liong Exhibition Hall at Fuqing Overseas Chinese Museum, the Keqiutou Site Museum in Pingtan, and the Overseas Chinese Exhibition Hall at Sanfang Qixiang, collecting physical historical materials on the migration of Fujian overseas Chinese and exchanges along the Maritime Silk Road to lay a solid documentary foundation for joint research.

This topic-based research visit integrated academic seminars at higher education institutions, empirical research on basic education, and fieldwork for cultural heritage documentation. Both sides reached a consensus to take specific research projects and joint postgraduate training as starting points, continuously promote scholar exchanges and co-development and sharing of research results, translate the cultural momentum of sister-city ties into substantive academic outputs, and leverage university research strength to enhance people-to-people bonds between China and Indonesia.
