On May 20th, Prof. Huang Hansheng, a strategic advisor of discipline development of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council and former Secretary of the Party Committee of Fujian Normal University, was invited to FPNU to give a lecture themed Reflections on the Cultivation of Sports Majors at Undergraduate Level in Higher Education Institutions of China. The lecture was hosted by Prof. Chen Zhiyong, Vice President of FPNU. The Party leaders, teachers and student representatives of the School of Physical Education attended the lecture.
Professor Huang started with a brief account of the development of Physical Education majors at undergraduate level. After that was a comprehensive introduction of the current situation of the cultivation of the undergraduates majoring in sports from the following aspects: the regional distribution of sports degrees at universities in China, the structure of physical education degree colleges in China, the distribution of sports majors in different types of colleges and universities, and the regional distribution of sports majors in China.
He put an in-depth interpretation on the National Standard for Physical Education Teaching Quality in Higher Education in China. Specifically, he introduced the background, spirit, features and requirements of the National Standard. In addition, he profoundly elaborated the discipline development of physical education, cultivation objectives and the development of professional talents training programs in line with the FPNU’s characteristics. He also put forward guiding opinions and suggestions on the cultivation of undergraduates majoring in sports at FPNU.
He pointed out that the endless academic road requires the joint effort of all Physical Education scholars and that the development of Physical Education is an eternal theme of the field. He hoped that FPNU would have her feet on the ground, improve the teaching quality with the characteristics of FPNU, and make greater contributions to the cultivation of high-quality talents in sports science.
After the lecture, Professor Huang Hansheng had a discussion with the leading team members and professional directors of the School of Physical Education and gave face-to-face guidance on the construction and development of the School of Physical Education, the revision of the cultivation program for sports talents, curriculum construction, and social services.
