The 2026 Indonesian Cultural Festival was held at Wumashan Campus of FPNU on May 23. Co-organized by FPNU, Fujian International Communications Center and the Association of Indonesian Students in Fuzhou, the event was undertaken by the School of Culture and Law (Overseas Education School) and the School of Foreign Languages. Dr. Irene, M. Han, Vice Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to China, and Jiang Xingshan, Vice President of FPNU, attended the festival.

At the venue, Vice President Jiang Xingshan extended a warm welcome to all guests, faculty and students on behalf of the university. He stated that the cultural festival serves not only as a joyful stage showcasing Indonesia’s diverse and splendid culture, but also as a heartwarming bridge linking the friendship between China and Indonesia. He expressed the hope that this event would advance mutual learning between civilizations and deepen exchanges and cooperation. Taking the cultural festival as a platform, faculty and students could deepen mutual understanding and learn from one another through immersive experiences. The event would help young students from both countries broaden their horizons and grow together amid cultural interactions, while injecting new momentum into the university’s international education initiatives.

Dr. Irene, M. Han spoke highly of the cultural festival. She noted that the festival constitutes a vital platform for bilateral exchange and mutual appreciation, creating valuable opportunities to consolidate friendship and enhance mutual understanding between the two nations. She encouraged young students to take exchanges as a bond to learn from each other, progress side by side, and jointly contribute to the development of China-Indonesia friendly relations.

Centered on the theme “Sewu Pulo Journey Through the Islands”, the festival offered immersive cultural experiences presenting unique customs of Indonesia’s seven major islands, creating a relaxed and cheerful atmosphere throughout the venue. On stage, Indonesian international students from universities across Fujian Province and students from FPNU delivered joint performances. Dressed in traditional ethnic costumes, performers presented a wonderful blend of traditional song and dance with diverse cultural expressions, where traditional Chinese musical instruments harmonized beautifully with Indonesian ethnic rhythms. Complementary experience zones featuring an Indonesian food market and folk interactive games were also set up, drawing enthusiastic participation from faculty and students and constituting a vivid practice of cross-cultural communication.

Prior to the opening ceremony, Vice President Jiang Xingshan held a cordial meeting with Dr. Irene, M. Han and representatives of the Indonesia-Asia Council for Trade, Tourism and Economy at the Lin Lianxing Science and Technology Building’s Lingfeng Hall, where both sides engaged in amicable discussions.
