On the morning of December 1st, the inauguration ceremony of Fujian Polytechnic Normal University was held at the southern gate of Wumashan Campus. Present at the ceremony were Zheng Kaijin, secondary inspector of the General Office of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee, Li Wenzhe, secondary inspector of the General Office of Fujian Provincial Government, as well as Zhao Zhiqiang, deputy director of the Office of Government Set-up Committee of Fujian Province. The University was inaugurated by Lin Heping, secretary of Educational Commission ofthe CPC Fujian Provincial Committee, head of Fujian Provincial Department of Education and secretary of its Party organization. Attended the ceremony were Liu Zhuoqun, member of the Standing Committee ofthe CPCFujian municipal Committee and secretary of the CPC Fuqing municipal Committee, university leaders such as Lai Hairong, Liao Shenji, Lin Haifeng, Zhang Yi and Chen Zhiyong, Xue Xingyuan, chairman of the university council, heads of related departments of Fuqing Municipal Party Committee and Fuqing Municipal Government, as well as members of the Reform and Development Commission of the university, representatives of retired comrades, cadres, and representatives of faculty and students.
The inauguration ceremony began with the solemn national anthem.
LinHeping read out the letter from the Ministry of education onapproving the establishment of Fujian Polytechnic Normal University. In June 2019, with the approval of the Ministry of education, Fujian Polytechnic Normal University grew out of the Fuqing Branch of Fujian Normal University as a full-time undergraduate university. Established by Fujian Provincial People's Government, FPNU is specialized in cultivating high-quality application-oriented professionals and technical personnel that are needed in regional economic and social development.
The plaque was jointly unveiled by Zhou Lianqing, Zheng Kaijin, Li Wenzhe, Zhao Zhiqiang, Liu Zhuoqun and Liao Shenji.
Zhou Lianqing delivered a speech. On behalfthe CPC Fujian Provincial Committee and Fujian Provincial Government, he extended warm congratulations to the university and expressed sincere greetings to faculty and students who worked hard for the development of FPNU.
Zhou Lianqing noted that the establishment of Fujian Polytechnic Normal University is the decision and plan made by the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee and Fujian Provincial Government, aiming to accelerate the construction of new Fujian, improve the structure of higher education across Fujian and achieve the sustainable development of universities. Universities should follow General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important exposition on education and bear the spirit of the Fifth Plenary Session of the 19th CPC Central Committee in mind, strengthen the Party construction in line with the Party’s political building, fully implement the educational guidelines of the Party, and persist in the socialist orientation for running universities. We must complete the task of fostering virtue through education and a new generation of young people who have all-round moral, intellectual, physical, and aesthetical grounding with a hard-working spirit. We must focus on our education orientation of training teachers to be adept in vocational education, integrate normal education with vocational education and improve the ranks of higher-quality teachers with professionalism and innovation ability, thus providing professionals to underpin the development of vocational education. With a focus on provincial leading industries, emerging industries and specialty industries, efforts should be made in cultivating high-quality application-oriented professionals, technical personnel and vocational education teachers that are needed in regional economic and social development to better serve the high-quality development in all respects.
Zhou Lianqing said that the provincial Party committee and the provincial government will continue to support the reform and development of the school. Relevant provincial departments and localities should give more support to the school by improving school conditions, reinvigorating universities through human resources, deepening the integration of industry and education, and improving the schooling quality.
Lin Heping asked the university to follow the decision and deployment of the central and provincial governments, implement the guidance and work requirements of Zhou Lianqing (provincialStanding Committeemember). Based on the needs of economic and social development and ofmodern vocational education development of Fujian, especially in southeast Fujian, FPNU should continue to maintain the spirit of vigor, enthusiasm, unity and initiative, take advantage of the favorable situation, forge ahead to build a distinctive and high-levelpolytechnic normal university and strive to make new and greater contributions to our province to promote high-quality development and write the Fujian chapterin building a modern socialist country in all aspects.
On behalf of the administration of the Party Committee of FPNU and all teachers and students, Lai Hairong expressed his heartfelt thanks to the leaders at all levels, authorities, local parties and governments, people from all sectors of life and alumni who cared about and supported FPNU’s independent work and its career development. He said that the opening ceremony of FPNU marked the development of the universityinto a new journey. The university will adhere to Xi Jinping's thought on socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era, study and implement profoundly General Secretary Xi Jinping's important remarks on education and the spirit of the Fifth Plenary Session of the 19th CPC Central Committee, strive to cultivate high-quality applied, technically skilled personnel and professional teachers who are essential to regional economic and social development, and accelerate the establishment of a distinctive and high-levelpolytechnic normal university, so as to make its due contribution to Fujian Province's high-quality growth in an all-round way.
After the inauguration ceremony, Zhou Lianqing had a discussion with the school leadership team and put forward guidance on the team building and the development of the school. Zhou Lianqing stressedthat it is essential to conscientiously fulfill the prime responsibility of running the Party with strict discipline, strengthen self-construction, and the construction of grass-roots Party organizations, build a fine Party culture and a corruption-free Party, work according to the rules, run the school according to the law, strictly implement the responsibility system for ideological work, improve teacher ethics and teacher style, and constantly improve the ability and level of running theuniversity. We should always adhere to the school-running orientation, focus onthe mainduties, increase the introduction of professionals, and strive to become a benchmark in areas such as training of professional teachers. Actively integrate into the regional economic and social development of Fujian, carry out closer cooperation with southeast Fujian, especially Fuqing City and local leading enterprises, and promote the deep integration of government, industry, academic and research. He hoped that the relevant provincial departments, Fuzhou City and Fuqing City would make joint efforts to support the development of the university, actively help the university speed up the construction of the new campus and help solve the bottlenecks that hinder the development of the university.
