On the morning of December 7th, the inauguration ceremony of the Marine Academy of our university was held in the Academic Lecture Hall on Wumashan Campus. The meeting was presided over by Vice President Chen Zhiyong. The inauguration ceremony was attended by heads of relevant departments of the university as well as representatives of faculty and students of related specialties.

Participating school leaders Lai Hairong, Liao Shenji, Lin Haifeng, Zhang Yi, Chen Zhiyong and President Chen Renhui jointly inaugurated the Marine Academy.

During the ceremony, President Liao Shenji read out the relevant decisions of the university on the establishment of the Marine Academy. The Marine Academy consists of majors of tourism management and service education, environmental engineering, marine resources and environment, as well as research institutions such as the Key Laboratory of Offshore Watershed Environment in Fujian Province. It is an academy that integrates liberal arts, economics, management, science and engineering.

Fujian Provincial Department of Ocean and Fisheries sent a congratulatory letter. The congratulatory letter noted that Fujian was a province with large marine resources and strong marine economy. The 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China has made arrangements to speed up the construction of a strong marine state and pointed out the way forward. The construction of a strong marine province calls for innovation and professionals in marine science and technology. It’s the right time for FPNU to establish the Marine Academy. Fujian Provincial Department of Ocean and Fisheries would continue to support FPNU to carry out ocean-related disciplines construction, scientific research and professionals training, so as to jointly promote the high-quality development of marine economy and make new contributions to building a modern socialist country in all respects.

Song Jiahui, former safety director of the Ministry of Transport and president of the China Diving & Salvage Contractors Association, congratulated the establishment of the Marine Academy through a video message.

President Chen Renhui said in his speech that the establishment of the Marine Academy of the university has taken an important step in docking regional economy and integrating enterprises, universities and research institutions. He was full of confidence and expectations for university-enterprise cooperation.

Secretary Lai Hairong made a speech. He pointed out that the university deeply studied and implemented the important exposition and instruction spirit of the General Secretary Xi Jinping on "building a marine power country" and "cultivating new cross-disciplinary growth points". With the goal of serving the high-quality development of Fujian's "four major economies", the university actively implemented the Special Plan for the Construction of a Strong Marine Province in Fujian Province during the 14th Five-Year Plan Period, integrating the majors related to liberal arts, science and engineering, and setting up institutions like the Marine Academy. The relevant officials of the Marine Academy made statements.

President Liao Shenji and President Chen Renhui, on behalf of the two sides, signed a framework agreement on university-enterprise cooperation in deep-sea aquaculture, marine smart equipment, marine tourism and marine leisure cultural tourism platforms.

With the goal of serving the "cultural tourism + marine" economy of Fujian Province, the Marine Academy would base on the cross-integration of marine cultural tourism, port logistics, marine aquaculture monitoring, offshore ecological restoration and related engineering disciplines, and closely follow the current situation, trend and demand of high-quality economic development in the surrounding areas of the university especially Fuqing National Marine Ranching Demonstration Area Construction, Fuqing Port Area Construction, Pingtan Comprehensive Experimental Area Tourism Resort Construction, Putian Landscape Leisure Fishery Demonstration Area Construction, Fujian Cross-city and Cross-island Marine Tourism Route Construction, Fuzhou Lianjiang and Putian Large-scale Fishing Tourism Integration, Fishing and Tourism Complementary Construction, Green and Low-carbon Deep-sea Farming Platform Construction. It aimed to cultivate high-quality technical and skilled professionals to serve the high-quality development of marine economy, green economy and cultural tourism economy in the "four major economies" of Fujian Province.
