As we reflect on 2024, the resolute footsteps of our faculty and students resonate in our ears. Those touching and unforgettable moments are like still frames, illustrating how extraordinary this past year has been.
Over the past year,we have stuck to Party building as the guiding principle, fulfilling responsibilities and concentrating strengths to empower development. Under the strong leadership of the university Party committee, all faculty and students have thoroughly studied and implemented the spirit of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee and the National Education Conference. We have carried out the deployment of the Sixth and Seventh Plenary Sessions of the 11th Provincial Party Committee, maintained regular and long-term disciplinary education for Party members, and deepened comprehensive strict governance over the Party. with high political responsibility and high-level education mission, we have made a more solid foundation for advancing the university towards first-class status by accepting undergoing provincial Party committee inspection and undergraduate teaching qualification evaluation.
Over the past year, we have adhered to both quantitative growth and qualitative =enhancement, continuously deepening connotative construction. We have innovated the vocational teacher training by establishing “Outstanding Vocational Teacher Training Experimental Class”, initiating an Excellent Engineer Cooperative Program with Fuzhou BOE and adding six new Ministry of Education Industry-Education Collaborative Education Projects. The university was approved as a China Master of Arts and Crafts Inheritance and Innovation Base by integrating craft art education with professional competencies. We have progressively established a food discipline-centered academic system with "food+" development models, with our Packaging Engineering program ranking first in the Applied Packaging Engineering Program category of the 2024 China University Alumni Association ranking. A historic breakthrough was achieved as our research won the Ministry of Education's Humanities and Social Sciences Award, marking the university's first attainment of the highest honor in humanities and social sciences.
Over the past year, our university has prioritized safeguard mechanisms to achieve significant progress in operational capacity. We struggled to secure special subsidies for undergraduates program accreditation and grants from Fuqing Municipal Government, and these resources provided foundational support for advancements of school. We also recruited 61 PhD holders, bringing total doctoral faculty to 200. We also earned provincial distinction as the first peer institution with research team admission into Fujian Key Scientific Innovation Talent Program. The construction of the southern area of Wuma Mountain campus has been completed, with a total construction volume of 90%. The renovation of the campus roads from white to black, the new decoration of the Lu Ming Building, the transformation of the Suxin canteen, and the successive completion of the renovation of the ball game hall and the track and field are all smoothly finished, giving the campus a completely new look.
Over the past year, our university has proactively served national strategic priorities through targeted initiatives. We deepened exchanges and cooperation with ASEAN nations via our “Language + Technology” model, driving China-Indonesia cooperation in the “Two Countries, Twin Parks” industrial initiative. Our achievements were featured in a special report by Guangming Daily. We also hosted the 2024 China-Indonesia International Conference on people-to-people Exchange and Development. It is the largest bilateral academic meeting since the Joint Statement on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and Community of Shared Future. Pioneering new paths for the integrated development of cross-strait education, we also have been approved for independent enrollment of students from Taiwan, assisted the provincial education department in completing the certification of 39 "dual-qualified" teachers from Taiwan in the first batch of 24 institutions, and served the development of Taiwanese teachers in Fujian.
Over the past year, adhering to characteristic development, we have provided outstanding services in vocational education. We have carried out a pilot project to cultivate talents through the “3+4” system, bridging the gaps between secondary vocational education and undergraduate education, and promoting the vertical integration of different levels of vocational education. Moreover, we have enhanced the functions of our think tank, and issued the annual quality report on provincial vocational education and the first provincial special report on the integration of industry and education in secondary vocational education. A total of 30 training programs for teachers in vocational educational institutions across the province have been completed, benefiting nearly 4,000 people. Additionally, we have conducted the “dual-qualified” certifications for 22,000 teachers. Furthermore, the platform role of the Provincial Vocational Education Teachers Development Alliance has been fully utilized, with 1 new affiliated secondary vocational school and 6 new base schools added.
As we look ahead to 2025, it represents a pivotal year of transition for the school, marking the conclusion of the 14th Five-Year Plan and the beginning of preparations for the 15th Five-Year Plan. Moreover, this year is of great significance in terms of deepening reforms and overcoming formidable challenges. The construction of an application-oriented university is a herculean task, while the construction of master's degree programs is confronted with a pressing situation and the cultivation of connotations calls for unremitting endeavors. The tasks entailed in the development of various undertakings are staggeringly arduous.
We always believe that, although dreams may be distant, they can be reached through pursuit; although aspirations may be arduous, they can be realized through perseverance. On the journey to building a first-class applied university, every teacher and student is a protagonist, every effort is invaluable, and every ray of light is bright.
In this new year, let us hold high the great banner of socialism with Chinese characteristics and be guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. We must keep in mind the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping for the school's education, strive to explore new paths in advancing scientific and technological innovation, take the lead in expanding high-level open education, set examples in serving regional development, and make sustained contributions to serving the high-quality development of vocational education in Fujian Province. With determination and action towards our dream of a strong university, we will strive to make our university a regional, first-class, multidisciplinary, comprehensive, and applied institution that is "remembered, useful, reliable, trustworthy, and indispensable" to the local people, and make greater contributions to building a strong educational system and strong higher education.
