On the afternoon of December 22nd, FPNU held the appointment ceremony for the visiting professor, Guo Huimin, in the lecture hall of the Science Building in Wumashan Campus. Mr. Guo is the Vice President of China International Public Relations Association and the Director of the Association’s Academic Committee. He is also a level-2 professor and former Vice President of University of International Relations, and enjoys special allowance of the State Council. Liao Shenji, President of FPNU, Yu Xiaoqiu, researcher of Party History and Literature Insititute of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and also visiting professor of FPNU, together with heads and some representatives of teachers and students of the Human Resources Office, Office of International Cooperation and Exchange and School of Culture, Media and Law attended the ceremony.

President Liao Shenji issued the letter of appointment and granted FPNU’s badge to Professor Guo Huimin. Afterwards, President Liao Shenji gave an enthusiastic speech and expressed his warm welcome and heartfelt thanks to Professor Guo Huimin for accepting the appointment. He said that Professor Guo has profound academic accomplishments and widespread social influence. This joining is of positive significance to FPNU’s discipline construction, introduction and cultivation of teachers, scientific research and talent training. He hoped that Professor Guo could give full play to his academic resources and social influence to guide and help FPNU to develop better academic disciplines, and make contributions to the construction of academic exchange platform, the introduction of high-level talents, the cultivation of high-quality talents and so on.

Professor Guo thanked FPNU for its kind invitation and expressed that it is his honor to contribute to the development of higher education in his hometown. He believed that teaching staff is an important force for school and specialty development. He will do his best to support and participate in FPNU’s discipline and specialty construction and scientific research, and work hand in hand with FPNU.

After the ceremony, Professor Guo gave a lecture titled “Journalism and Communication in the Era of Internet Social Media” to the teachers and students of the School of Culture, Media and Law. He used rich materials but simple language to explain the new characteristics of communication in the Internet era and the new trend of network social communication, and put forward the viewpoints such as “Without social contact, there is no communication and no value”, and “The power of communication is the influence”, which deeply inspire and benefit the teachers and students. He encouraged the students to create the future rather than predict the future, because it is better to create than predict. He hoped that the students would cherish opportunities, stick firmly to their ideals, think big, actively broaden their horizons, constantly improve their cognition, and grow better.
