On May 12, Fujian People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (FPAFFC) and Fujian Polytechnic Normal University (FPNU) jointly held an online lecture on China-Japan cultural exchanges. The lecture was presented to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between China and Japan, the 40th anniversary of Fujian’s sister-province relationship with the Nagasaki Prefecture, and the 25th anniversary of its ties with the Okinawa Prefecture. Ms. Hu Yiping, a research professor of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation and the Sasakawa Japan-China Friendship Fund, was invited to deliver the lecture, which is entitled China-Japan Exchanges Need Seeing is Believing Non-governmental Communication Channels.

Ms. Hu Yiping discussed the role and the significance of people-to-people exchanges between China and Japan based on her work experience and the China-Japan exchanges that she was involved in. She mentioned that the year 2022 is of special significance in the history of China-Japan relations. “Amity between people holding the key to sound relations between states” is the ideal exchange between the two countries. To achieve this goal, it is necessary to promote the people-to-people exchanges between the two countries, deepen mutual recognition, and promote mutual understanding. She also shared her personal research on China-Japan relations and her Japanese learning and translation experience. Moreover, she put forward valuable suggestions on FPNU’s Japanese studies.

This lecture is of great significance, for it facilitates developing more practices that promote sustainable exchanges and cooperation between China and Japan. It not only provided valuable experience of carrying out exchanges with Japan, but also offered insights into FPNUs Japanese studies and broadened its Japanese majorsprofessional horizons.

More than 200 people attended the lecture online, including the foreign affairs offices of provincial, municipal, and district governments of Fujian, and FPNU teachers and students. (Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, School of Foreign Languages, Center for Japanese Studies)
