On the morning of May 31st , the unveiling ceremony of FPNU Research Center for Japanese Studies was launched. The research center has been jointly unveiled by Kamei Keiji, the Japanese Consul-General to Guangzhou, Shen Ziling, head of Consular Office, Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee, Lai Hairong, Secretary of FPNU Party Committee, and Liao Shenji, FPNU Principal. The unveiling ceremony was hosted by Chen Zhiyong, Vice Principal of FPNU. The attendees of the ceremony included: Lei Huixin, the assistant of the Japanese Consulate General to Guangzhou, Lin Shuling, a secondary principal staff member of Consular Office, Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee, relevant superintendents from the university functional departments, colleges and the Research Center for Japanese Studies, and representatives of teachers and students. It is reported that FPNU Research Center for Japanese Studies is the first of its kind ever established by Fujian provincial universities.
In his speech, Secretary Lai Hairong pointed out the advantages of Japanese Studies owned by FPNU: 21 lecturers studied in Japan; friendly relations with universities and institutes such as Sapporo International University, The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics, Nagasaki International University; the establishment of Research Institute for Huangbo Culture and Maritime Silk Road, Fujian Provincial University and College Social Science Research Base of the Research Center for Huangbo Culture. In the future, FPNU will bring its location & discipline advantages into full play, providing intellectual support for deepening the contact between China and Japan, Fujian and Japan in the realms of economy and trade, culture as well as education.
Kamei Keij, the Japanese Consul-General to Guangzhou, pointed out that, there has been close communication between Fuqing and Japan and that establishing a research center for Japanese studies in the university located in Fuqing is quite meaningful. The year 2022 marks the 50th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between China and Japan, also the 45th anniversary of FPNU, and a perfect time for setting up the first research center for Japanese studies in and around Fujian. He quoted a verse from ancient poetry:"Bosom friends make distance disappear" to express his expectation to the research center’s role in enhancing Chinese understanding of Japan and promoting the friendly relations between China and Japan.
According to Principal Liao Shenji, FPNU will strive to build the research center at high standards and as an influential research center for national studies by 2030.
Principal Liao Shenji presented Huangbo Culture Studies edited and published by Research Institute for Hunagbo Culture and Maritime Silk Road, as a gift to Kamei Keij, the Japanese Consul-General to Guangzhou.
Serving as a significant platform for FPNU’s promoting transformation and development as well as strengthening international intercourse and cooperation, the Research Center for Japanese Studies will carry out spontaneous and commissioned studies in the realms of economy, culture, society, technology, ecology and education between China and Japan. The research center will actively provide advisory services to economic agents economically connected to Japan, strengthen the contact and carry out research cooperation with Japanese studies academic circles in and outside of China, so as to promote the mutual understanding between the people of the two countries and build a bridge for the sound and stable long-term development of relations between China and Japan.
