On July 8th, FPNU held an expert meeting on constructing “Research Center of Overseas and Ethnic Chinese and Sino-Foreign Cultural Integration (hereinafter referred to as Research Center)”. Experts from inside and outside Fujian Province attended the meeting online and offline respectively, including Researcher Yu Yunquan of China International Communications Group, Researcher Zhou Shaoqing from Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Researcher Yu Xiaoqiu of Institute of Party History and Literature, Professor Chen Wuyuan of Xiamen University, Professor Zeng Ling of Xiamen University, Professor Xue Xiujun of Huaqiao University, Professor Sun Jiandang of Fujian Normal University, and Professor Chen Qiuhua of Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University. Professor Zhang Huarong, Dean of Concord University College, Fujian Normal University, served as the leader of the expert panel. Professor Chen Zhiyong, Vice President of FPNU and Executive Deputy Director of Research Center, presided at the meeting. Professor Lai Hairong, Secretary of FPNU Party Committee and Director of Research Center, delivered a speech in the meeting.
In his speech, Secretary Lai Hairong pointed out that General Secretary Xi Jinping's forward-looking speech that he made during his inspection at Renmin University of China provides fundamental guidance on the research of philosophy and social sciences in the new era. FPNU attaches great importance to the scientific research of philosophy and social sciences; it has been striving to improve the scientific research in terms of platforms, talents, and resources. This expert meeting is not only its positive action to implement the country’s policies on philosophy and social science research, but also its step forward to improve its scientific research. He asked involved divisions and colleges to form a closer association with relevant units like Fujian Federation of Social Science Circles, expecting Research Center to make a positive contribution as soon as possible towards integrating sino-foreign culture and building a community with a shared future for mankind.
The experts attentively listened to the construction and academic plans for Research Center, based on which they put forward constructive advice. The experts all agreed that Research Center serves the needs of the Party and the country and abides by governmental decisions. It is established in a reasonable manner, which has a clear research direction and a stable research team. Moreover, they suggested that Research Center further condense research directions, innovate research methods, strengthen the cultivation of high-level talents, and promote cooperation and exchanges with other research institutions both home and abroad.
Secretary Lai Hairong expressed his heartfelt thanks to the experts for their valuable advice. He said that FPNU will follow their suggestions, further revising the construction plan and the academic development plan. FPNU will successfully complete all the established research tasks and devotedly serve Fujian Province and the whole country regarding overseas Chinese affairs.
