From July 14th to 15th, the football and basketball games for Group B (i.e. Schools of Physical Education at ordinary colleges and universities) in the 17th Provincial Games successively ended in Fuzhou and Xiamen. Our school team had excellent performance, winning the third place in the football game and the second place in the basketball game, the best results in the FPNU history.
The football team was led by Xu Chang with Liu Yang as coach and Pan Yang as assistant coach. The basketball team was led by Lin Zhengmei and coached by Huang Jianqiu and Lin Wanping. Li Zhilong, a basketball player and junior student majoring in Social Sports Guidance and Management, was awarded the “Excellent Player” and Huang Jianqiu was awarded the “Excellent Coach”.
During the game, Secretary of the Party Committee of University Lai Hairong went to Fuzhou to visit the the football team and its coaches. Also, he called the basketball team who were fighting in Xiamen to cheer for them and express greetings. The athletes and coaches were inspired and encouraged by Secretary Lai and the school’s care. They said they would live up to school’s expectations, continue working hard and spare no effort to achieve the best achievements within their capacity. Later, our school team would compete in volleyball, cheerleading, swimming, track and field, badminton, and tennis for Group B.
