On April 24th, the 2nd Cross-Strait Salvage and Underwater Engineering Integrated Development Technology Exchange Conference was held in Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone, which was hosted by China Diving & Salvage Contractors Association and co-organized by FPNU and six other units, including the Investment Promotion Committee of Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone. Entrusted by President Liao Shenji of FPNU, He Kunji, a member of the FPNU Reform and Development Committee, led a team to attend the conference, and the heads of School of Oceanography participated in the involved activities.

At the event, FPNU, together with Investment Promotion Committee of Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone, China Diving & Salvage Contractors Association, Fujian Polytechnic of Information Technology, Pingtan Research Institute of Xiamen University, China Diving School in Taiwan, and Zhengli Ocean Engineering Co., Ltd., signed a strategic cooperation agreement on the integrated development of research on cross-strait maritime salvage and underwater engineering technology. The seven units planned to utilize Pingtan's geographical advantages in marine salvage and rescue work and to carry out “production, learning, research, education, and intelligence” cooperation in the fields of underwater salvage and engineering based in Pingtan. The administrative leaders of the School of Oceanography were appointed to sign the contract on behalf of FPNU.

As a representative of the university among the signatories of the strategic cooperation agreement, FPNU will give full play to its advantages in academic positioning and geographic location. FPNU will take the lead in collaborating with universities and vocational schools on Two Sides of the Strait and in Four Regions in areas, such as marine engineering technology, planning and construction of marine tourism facilities (including diving tourism), teacher training, and vocational training for marine tourism. In this way, it hopes to help train talents in the cross-strait maritime salvage research and underwater engineering technology, and carry out relevant technological research and development.
